Flagstaff is located in Central Northern Arizona, high in the pines at and elevation above 7,000 feet. Weather in Flagstaff is very diverse with moderate summers and cold winters. Surprisingly, summer nights occasionally fall near freezing while day time highs reach beyond the upper 80s. Rain averages around 22 in/year, not to mention plenty of snow in the winter. Flagstaff is in Coconino County. Flagstaff is home to Northern Arizona University and Lowell observatory. Outdoor opportunities include skiing, hiking, hunting, and day trips to many National Monuments and parks. Some include Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater, Wupatki, The Grand Canyon (about an hour north), and other sites.
